Product Description
Crestor 20 mg is one of the most effective statins available. It is indicated for: Primary hypercholesterolaemia (Type IIa) or mixed dyslipidaemia (Type IIb) Homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia Prevention of major cardiovascular events (heart attack, stroke, revascularisation) in high-risk patients (even if cholesterol is normal) Slowing progression of atherosclerosis At 20 mg, rosuvastatin typically lowers LDL-C by 50–55%, more than most other statins at standard doses. Benefits • Most potent statin – achieves target LDL levels in most patients • Proven to reduce risk of heart attack and stroke (JUPITER, CORONA, ASTEROID studies) • Once-daily dosing (any time of day, with or without food) • Lower pill burden – many patients reach goal with just 10–20 mg • Favourable safety profile compared to older high-dose statins • Can be used in patients intolerant to other statins (less muscle side effects in many cases) How to Use • Usual adult dose: 10–20 mg once daily – Starting dose usually 10 mg; 20 mg for severe hypercholesterolaemia or high CV risk – Maximum 40 mg (only under specialist supervision) • Swallow whole with water – can be taken morning or evening • Works best alongside diet low in saturated fat and regular exercise • Regular blood tests (lipid profile, liver function) required Important Warnings Rare but serious risk of myopathy/rhabdomyolysis (muscle pain/weakness + dark urine → stop and contact doctor immediately) Not recommended in active liver disease or pregnancy/breastfeeding Dose adjustment needed in Asian patients or with certain medications (cyclosporine, gemfibrozil) Report unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness promptly
