Product Description
Dalacin C 300 mg Capsules contain clindamycin HCl, a semi-synthetic antibiotic derived from lincomycin with potent activity against susceptible anaerobes (Bacteroides, Clostridium), Gram-positive aerobes (Staphylococcus aureus including some MRSA, Streptococcus), and certain protozoa. Indicated for severe infections including bone/joint infections, skin/soft tissue infections (e.g., cellulitis, abscesses), dental infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, and intra-abdominal infections when penicillin is unsuitable. Also used for bacterial vaginosis (topical form) and as alternative in penicillin-allergic patients. High bioavailability and good tissue penetration. Benefits • Highly effective against deep-seated anaerobic and Staphylococcal infections • Alternative for penicillin-allergic patients (except those with macrolide cross-allergy) • Once- to four-times-daily dosing depending on severity • Proven in serious infections where oral therapy is appropriate • Lower risk of C. difficile compared to some broad-spectrum antibiotics when used judiciously • Can be used post-IV switch in step-down therapy How to Use • Adults: usual dose 150–450 mg every 6–8 hours (600–1800 mg/day) • Severe infections: up to 600 mg every 6 hours (maximum 2.7 g/day IV equivalent) • Swallow whole with a full glass of water (to reduce oesophageal irritation) • Take with or without food (food may reduce GI upset) • Complete full prescribed course (usually 7–14 days) even if symptoms improve • High risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea – stop and seek medical advice if severe diarrhoea occurs
