Dostinex 0.5Mg Tab 8S contains cabergoline, a long-acting dopamine agonist used in the treatment of hyperprolactinaemia — a condition characterised by abnormally high levels of prolactin in the blood. Elevated prolactin levels can cause a range of hormonal disturbances in both men and women, including menstrual irregularities, infertility, galactorrhoea (inappropriate milk production), and in men, reduced libido and sexual dysfunction. Cabergoline acts by stimulating dopamine D2 receptors in the pituitary gland, thereby inhibiting the secretion of prolactin. Unlike older dopamine agonists, cabergoline has a notably long duration of action, allowing for a twice-weekly dosing schedule, which significantly improves patient convenience and treatment compliance.
