Product Description
Dostinex 0.5mg Tablets 2 Tablets is a prescription medication containing cabergoline, a long-acting dopamine D2 receptor agonist that inhibits prolactin release from the pituitary gland. It is highly effective in treating hyperprolactinemia caused by: Prolactin-secreting pituitary adenomas (prolactinomas) Idiopathic hyperprolactinemia Other causes of elevated prolactin (e.g., certain medications) Cabergoline lowers prolactin levels, restores normal ovulation/menstruation in women, reduces breast milk production (galactorrhea), improves fertility and relieves symptoms like headaches or vision problems caused by large prolactinomas. It has a long duration of action, allowing once- or twice-weekly dosing in most cases. The tablets are film-coated for easier swallowing, and the small pack of 2 tablets is often used for initial treatment or dose titration under medical supervision. Dostinex is not indicated for Parkinson’s disease in this low-dose formulation (higher doses are used for PD under different brand names). Benefits: • Rapidly and effectively lowers elevated prolactin levels • Restores normal menstrual cycles and fertility in women • Reduces unwanted breast milk production and breast tenderness • Improves symptoms related to prolactinomas (e.g., headaches, vision issues) • Long-acting – convenient dosing (often 1–2 times per week) How to Use: • Dosage is individualized by a doctor – always follow the prescribed dose exactly • Typical adult dose for hyperprolactinemia: 0.25mg twice weekly (every 3–4 days), increased gradually if needed (maximum usually 1mg twice weekly) • Take with food to reduce nausea • Swallow whole with water – do not crush or chew • Regular blood tests (prolactin levels) and monitoring are required • Do not stop suddenly – follow doctor’s tapering instructions if needed • Do not exceed the prescribed dosage • Consult a doctor before use if pregnant (contraindicated), nursing, have heart valve issues, liver disease, uncontrolled hypertension, or taking other medicines (especially dopamine antagonists)
