Product Description
Forxiga 5mg Tablets contain dapagliflozin, an SGLT2 inhibitor that works by blocking glucose reabsorption in the kidneys, promoting urinary glucose excretion to lower blood sugar levels. It is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise in type 2 diabetes to improve glycemic control, with or without metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin. Clinical trials demonstrate HbA1c reductions of 0.5-1% and weight loss of 2-3 kg over 24 weeks. Additionally, it reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in diabetic patients with cardiovascular risk factors and is approved for heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) to slow progression. The 5 mg dose is typically for initiation or maintenance in renal impairment, with effects independent of insulin action. Benefits • Lowers blood glucose effectively with low risk of hypoglycemia • Promotes modest weight loss and reduces visceral fat • Decreases cardiovascular death and heart failure hospitalization risk • Slows kidney disease progression in CKD and diabetic nephropathy • Once-daily dosing improves adherence without meal restrictions • Well-tolerated with urinary glucose excretion as primary mechanism How to Use • Take one 5 mg tablet once daily, with or without food, at any time • Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew • For diabetes: Start at 5 mg; may increase to 10 mg if tolerated and needed • For heart failure/CKD: 10 mg daily; use 5 mg if eGFR
