Glucovance 500 mg/5 mg Tablets 30's combine metformin hydrochloride 500 mg (biguanide) and glibenclamide 5 mg (second-generation sulfonylurea) in one tablet. Metformin improves insulin sensitivity and reduces hepatic glucose production, while glibenclamide stimulates insulin release from pancreatic β-cells. Indicated as second-line therapy when diet, exercise, and maximum tolerated dose of metformin alone fail to achieve control, or as initial therapy in patients with markedly elevated HbA1c. The film-coated tablets offer improved compliance and lower risk of hypoglycaemia compared to separate tablets.
