Product Description
Janumet 50/1000mg Tablets 56 Tablets is a fixed-dose combination of sitagliptin (a DPP-4 inhibitor) and metformin (a biguanide), used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes when metformin alone is inadequate. Sitagliptin enhances incretin levels to increase insulin release and decrease glucagon, while metformin reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity. This pack provides 56 oval, red film-coated tablets for convenient twice-daily use with meals to minimize gastrointestinal side effects. Rapidly absorbed; metformin excreted unchanged in urine, sitagliptin via urine and feces. Not for type 1 diabetes or ketoacidosis; requires renal monitoring (eGFR ≥30 mL/min). Manufactured by MSD; store below 25°C protected from moisture. Benefits • Dual mechanism lowers HbA1c by 1.5-2% for better long-term glucose control • Reduces fasting and postprandial glucose without hypoglycemia risk when used alone • Weight-neutral with low incidence of GI upset compared to metformin monotherapy • Twice-daily dosing improves adherence in combination therapy • Decreases diabetes complications risk like cardiovascular events How to Use • Take one tablet twice daily with meals to reduce GI side effects • Swallow whole with water; do not crush, chew, or split • Start with lower dose if needed; maximum 100mg sitagliptin/2000mg metformin daily • Monitor renal function before initiation and periodically • If a dose is missed, take as soon as remembered unless near next meal; do not double • Combine with diet, exercise, and regular blood glucose testing
