Janumet XR 50/1000mg Tablets combine two antihyperglycemic agents: sitagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor, and metformin hydrochloride extended-release, a biguanide. This pack of 56 tablets is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes when treatment with both sitagliptin and metformin is appropriate. Sitagliptin increases incretin levels to enhance insulin release and decrease glucagon, while metformin reduces hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity. The extended-release formulation provides once-daily dosing for convenience. It may be used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic agents like sulfonylureas or insulin. The tablets are light green, bi-convex oval, film-coated with "80" debossed on one side.
