Neomercazole 5mg Tablets contain carbimazole, a thioamide antithyroid drug that inhibits the enzyme thyroid peroxidase, blocking the synthesis of thyroid hormones T3 and T4. It is indicated for the treatment of hyperthyroidism, including Graves' disease, toxic multinodular goiter, and autonomous thyroid nodules. Carbimazole is converted to methimazole in the body, providing effective control of thyroid overactivity. Initial high doses reduce hormone levels rapidly, followed by maintenance dosing to achieve euthyroidism. It may be used alone or before/after radioiodine therapy, or preoperatively to prepare for thyroidectomy. Regular thyroid function monitoring is essential.
