Ozempic 0.25 mg is the starting dose pen of once-weekly semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analogue that lowers blood glucose by increasing insulin secretion, reducing glucagon, slowing gastric emptying, and reducing appetite. It is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and has proven cardiovascular and kidney-protective benefits. Many patients also experience significant weight loss (average 5–15% of body weight). The pen is dialled to deliver exactly 0.25 mg per injection for the first 4 weeks, after which patients usually move to the 0.5 mg or 1 mg pen.
