Suprax 100 mg/5 mL is the original branded cefixime suspension, highly effective against: Resistant middle-ear infections (otitis media) Strep throat / tonsillitis (including penicillin-resistant strains) Acute bronchitis & community-acquired pneumonia Uncomplicated urinary tract infections Typhoid fever (in some countries) It has excellent activity against Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Streptococcus pneumoniae – common pathogens in children. Benefits • Once-daily dosing for most infections (easier compliance) • Highly effective when amoxicillin or co-amoxiclav fails • Good penetration into middle ear, sinuses, and tonsils • Pleasant strawberry taste – high acceptance in children • Lower incidence of diarrhoea compared to some other cephalosporins • Safe in penicillin-allergic patients (except those with true cephalosporin allergy) How to Use Reconstitution Tap bottle to loosen powder Add boiled & cooled water in two portions (usually up to the mark ≈ 40–45 mL) Shake vigorously until fully dissolved Final volume ≈ 60 mL Typical Paediatric Dose (always follow doctor’s prescription) 8 mg/kg once daily OR 4 mg/kg twice daily Example: 10 kg child → 5 mL once daily 20 kg child → 10 mL once daily Adults 400 mg once daily (20 mL of this 100 mg/5 mL suspension) Duration Most infections: 7–14 days Strep throat: minimum 10 days Shake well before each use.
