Tacroz Forte 0.1% Oint 30Gm contains tacrolimus 0.1%, a macrolide immunosuppressant calcineurin inhibitor formulated as a topical ointment for the management of moderate to severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults where conventional treatments such as topical corticosteroids have failed or are contraindicated. Tacrolimus acts at a cellular level to block the calcineurin-dependent activation of T-lymphocytes, preventing the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines including IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, and interferon-gamma that drive the chronic immune-mediated skin inflammation characteristic of atopic dermatitis. Tacroz Forte at the 0.1% concentration is the higher-strength adult formulation — the 0.03% concentration is recommended for children and for milder presentations — providing more potent anti-inflammatory action for moderate to severe atopic disease. Unlike topical corticosteroids, tacrolimus does not cause skin atrophy (thinning), telangiectasia, or hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression, making it a valuable long-term treatment option and an appropriate choice for sensitive skin areas including the face, eyelids, and neck where steroid-induced atrophy is a significant concern with prolonged corticosteroid use. Rub in gently until the ointment disappears. Wash hands after application unless the hands are being treated. Do not use under occlusive dressings. Minimise sun exposure of treated areas and use sunscreen. Treatment should be continued for 1 week after complete clearing of symptoms. Available on prescription only.
