Tenormin 50 mg Tablet contains atenolol, a cardioselective beta-1 adrenergic blocker that primarily acts on the heart. It lowers blood pressure by reducing cardiac output and heart rate, decreases myocardial oxygen demand making it effective in angina pectoris, and helps control certain arrhythmias. Atenolol has minimal effect on beta-2 receptors in the lungs, making it safer for patients with mild asthma or COPD compared to non-selective beta blockers.
